My travels 2017 - part 2/2

I already wrote about my first half of the year in terms of travelling in the previous post, so it's time to take a look at the last six months of the year 2017 now!

On the 2nd July we headed back home from our backpacking adventure in Asia, so the first two days were spent in Bangkok and on an airplane. After returning home I found myself driving up north to visit my dad's side relatives and to spend some time at our summer cottage more than once. What a wonderful place to be and I just can't help but love Finnish Lapland. This month I started appreciating Finland more as a travel destination than I had ever before.

August / Elokuu
Travel-wise August was a boring month but it was full of things to do anyway. I visited friends, had friends coming over, saw many of my relatives and went to visit quite a few of them. I spent lots of time sorting out things regarding studying in Scotland, and it was a busy month in every other way than travelling.

September / Syyskuu

September would probably go under the title "boring" as well what comes to actual travelling but it was nothing but boring. I moved to Edinburgh and started to get to know the city and it's best spots. I visited my friends in Paisley and got a taste of Glasgow's famous nightlife. Made new friends and lived my life to the fullest even though it wasn't so much about travelling this month.

October / Lokakuu
Another boring month travel-wise and a very quiet month what comes to blogging. My parents came for a visit and I took them around Edinburgh and one day we went to Leith which was a lovely area I will definitely visit again. Otherwise I just stuck to living my not-so-boring unilife.

November / Marraskuu

Seems like I'm repeating myself here - not much happening except for living my best unilife. A weekend trip to Aberdeen took place on 18.-19. but it wasn't about sightseeing but about playing frisbee in the women's indoor regionals. Was fun though and the views on the way up north and back were beautiful! I also visited the National Museum of Scotland, so kind of did something touristy as well.

December / Joulukuu
Finally something more than just staying in Scotland - me and my best friend booked a spontaneous weekend trip to Amsterdam and spent three days discovering this beautiful city. Spending time together and seeing a new city was totally worth it! About halfway through the month I flew to Finland to spend my Christmas holiday back home, visiting relatives, and seeing friends.

So that's it. Year 2017 wrapped up what comes to travelling. Visiting 10 countries including Australia, Cambodia, Finland, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. 7/10 were new destinations and I ticked the box of country number 23 on my list of visited countries. 5 months spent backpacking, 24 flights and moving twice from one country to another. A busy, wonderful, and unforgettable year all in all!

Joten siinäpä se. Vuosi 2017 paketissa, mitä matkustamiseen tulee. Vierailin 10 maassa, mukaanlukien Alankomaat, Australia, Kambodza, Malesia, Singapore, Skotlanti, Suomi, Thaimaa, Uusi-Seelanti ja Vietnam. 7/10 kohteista olivat uusia ja maa numero 23 tuli tsekattua "käytyjen maiden listaltani". 5 kuukautta reppureissaamista, 24 lentoa ja kaksi muuttoa maasta toiseen. Kiireinen, mahtava ja ikimuistoinen vuosi kaikkiaan!

My travels 2017 - part 1/2

First of all: Merry Christmas to each and every one of you! I haven't felt like posting anything Christmas related and won't do it today either but I still hope you've had as lovely Christmas as I have!

Ihan ekana haluan toivottaa oikein ihanaa joulua ihan jokaiselle!

As we're getting towards the end of the year, I though it would be a perfect time for something you all are familiar with: a summary of my travels in year 2017. This time we're taking a look at the first half of the year, and we'll cover the last six months in the next post!

Näin vuoden lähestyessä loppuaan on täydellinen aika postaukselle, jonka idean kaikki luultavasti tietävätkin jo: vuoden 2017 reissujen yhteenveto. Tällä kertaa tarkastellaan vuoden ensimmäistä puolikasta ja ensi kerralla puhutaan lopuista kuudesta kuukaudesta!

January / Tammikuu
January was my last month with my awesome host family in Bunbury, Western Australia. Preparing for backpacking a couple of months I didn't really travel much. The most exciting local destinations were Perth on Australia Day (that wasn't really what I expected...) and a visit to Penguin Island in Rockingham.

February / Helmikuu

I said goodbyes to my host family and headed to Melbourne with my friend Viktoria in February. After a week there we took a ferry to Tasmania and spent there a couple of weeks. This part of Australia people often forget about became one of my favourite places I've been to in Oz! Driving around, staying with friends of a friend, and having fun. A great trip indeed!

Huippu reissu tosiaan!

March / Maaliskuu
In the beginning of March a plane took us to Sydney, a city I didn't like that much. After a few days there I got the worst news I could have got - my grandfather passed away suddenly. No matter how hard it was I kept travelling for the rest of the month and spent three amazing (but mentally very challenging and difficult) weeks in New Zealand. The land of Lord of The Rings was as beautiful as I expected!

April / Huhtikuu
In the beginning of April I started my four days long journey back to Finland. From Auckland to Helsinki via Brisbane, Melbourne, and Singapore. The longest total travel time ever. Three busy weeks travelling all over Finland, seeing friends and family. Plus the reason why I went to Finland, my grandfather's funeral. It was a beautiful but very sad spring day. In the end of the month I flew back to my another home country, Australia. Brisbane, to be more specific.

Huhtikuun alussa aloitin neljä päivää kestäneen matkani kotiin. Lensin Aucklandista Helsinkiin Brisbanen, Melbournen ja Singaporen kautta. Pisin matkustusaika ikinä. Kolme kiireistä viikkoa ympäri Suomea kulkemista, sukulaisten ja ystävien näkemistä, sekä tietenkin syy Suomeen paluuseen: vaarin hautajaiset. Päivä oli kaunis, mutta tosi surullinen kevätpäivä. Kuun lopussa lensin takaisin toiseen kotimaahani Australiaan. Brisbaneen, ollakseni täsmällinen.

May / Toukokuu
This month was my last month in Australia. First two weeks I spent in Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Cairns. The Great Barrier Reef was probably the most amazing experience! Then it was time to hop on a plane again and head back home. Landing to Perth was the best thing ever and my Australian adventure got a proper closure as I was able to return to my Aussie home and to my Aussie family. In the end of the month I had to say goodbye again and fly to Singapore where I met my best friend to start our Southeast Asian tour.

June was probably the busiest month of the year what comes to travelling. On the first of June we headed from Singapore to Malaysia by bus, took a flight from there to Vietnam on 8th. After week and a half we crossed the border to Cambodia and kept going through it and all the way to Thailand by the end of the month. One of the best backpacking months - five countries, best friend, lots of new and exciting experiences. But also lots of negative feelings.

What happened after this? Come back in a couple of days to find out!
Mitä seuraavaksi tapahtuikaan? Tule parin päivän päästä takaisin ottamaan selvää!

My year 2016

I've written a "my year" post every year ever since I started writing my very first blog ages ago. This blog has seen two of these posts already and I won't be breaking the tradition this year either. I skimmed through the posts from 2014 and 2015 and I have to say I wasn't completely honest with the latest one back then - the last few weeks of 2015 were the beginning of the shittiest three, four months of my life so far even though I claimed it was a great year (which it was if we exclude December), but let's talk about that a bit later on.

This time I wanted to take an even different approach to this yearly post. I'm too lazy to go through all my photos and make nice collages of every month (and I already gathered together my travels in this post), but I don't want to take that overly positive look to this that I did last year. So let's keep it simple, honest, and (hopefully) enjoyable. So here we go, this is what my year 2016 felt like:

2016 started off in Stockholm, Sweden, with my best friend. It was a great trip, lots of laughs and memories, a warmly welcomed break to the darkness and sadness I still partly denied at that time. January, February, March, are all kind of a one big mess in my head. Stress about school. Sad news about a few of my relatives. Stress about university applications. Going through the longest and hardest break up ever. Worrying about my two best friends whose lives weren't going that well back then. Struggling with myself. Struggling with who I am, who I want to become. Feeling completely worthless, incapable of accomplishing anything. Having no plans for the first time of my life. Those were some dark and miserable months in every way.

Then came the spring. 19th birthday, final exams of the IB. I got two offers from universities. And then started the best time of my life. I travelled to England. Came back home and headed to Luxembourg on the same week. After living a bit more than five weeks in this lovely little country in which I left a bit of my heart I travelled to Finland again. Celebrated my graduation and jumped on the plane in the end of July after three hectic weeks. And that's the journey I haven't finished yet. Australia.

Sitten tuli kevät. 19-vuotis synttärit, IB:n loppukokeet. Sain kaksi tarjousta yliopistoilta ja sitten alkoikin elämäni paras aika. Matkustin Englantiin. Australia.

I remember walking in the city of Luxembourg back in June, looking the stunning views (as it is a beautiful city!), raindrops falling down, listening to music coming from a small pub, and smiling. Being so happy that I almost started crying. I was truly happy, just by myself, for the very first time this year.

Muistan kävelleeni Luxemburgin kaupungin keskustassa kesäkuussa, katselleeni sykähdyttäviä maisemia (sillä Lux on vaan älyttömän kaunis kaupunki), sadepisarat ropisi hiljalleen maahan, kuuntelin pienestä pubista kantautuvaa musiikkia ja hymyilin. Olin niin onnellinen, että meinasi alkaa itkettää. Ekaa kertaa tälle vuodelle, ihan vaan itsekseni, olin tosissani onnellinen.
And that happiness I reached in Luxembourg  hasn't left me. It has grown, become a strong part of me and I feel invincible. I've been happier than I've ever been. Australia is a good place to be, it has been everything I dreamed about. Many new friends, a new home town, plenty to see and experience. A new home. Home where I'm completely myself. And I'm happy. Happiness is an interesting thing - you have to sink deep to fully realize how lucky you are. You need to touch the bottom to start living life to it's fullest. Shit happens but it happens for a reason.

Kaikelle on kummiskin syynsä.
Now I can see the reasons, I still believe in destiny and without all the things I went through this year I wouldn't be the person I'm now. It's a cliche but also very true. I've grown more as a person than I could have imagined. There's still a long way to go and lots of wounds to heal and lots of lessons to learn, but I think I'm on the right track. Because what matters in life is right here right now. Dream like you'd live forever, live like you'd die tomorrow. Imagine. And love.

Regardless of the most awful beginning, the end of 2016 looks pretty good. The big picture looks pretty good. I'm more myself than ever. I'm happier than ever. And I'm completely fine with the way my life's going. Even though next year is a bit scary as it will contain many goodbyes and tears, lots of changes, and new challenges, I'm more than ready to face it. I'm ready for you 2017 - you can't be crazier roller coaster ride than 2016 was. And if you are, well then I just hold on and see what happens!

Huolimatta kamalasta aloituksesta, vuoden 2016 loppu näyttää ihan kivalle.

Happy New Year 2017!
How was your 2016?
Onnellista vuotta 2017!
Miltä sun vuosi 2016 näytti?

My travels 2016

As always, I'm going to write a "my year" post, summarizing the main points of the past 12 months. In addition to that tradition I decided to start a new one this year - writing a summary of my travels this year. I've been reading these types of posts from multiple blogs and decided this is something I definitely want to do. So let's get started!

Kuten aina, aion kirjoittaa "mun vuosi"-tyyppisen postauksen summatakseni kuluneet 12 kuukautta. Kyseisen tradition lisäksi päätin aloittaa uuden perinteen tänä vuonna. Olen lukenut vastaavia "reissuvuoteni"-postauksia lukuisista muista blogeista ja halusin ehdottomasti toteuttaa tällaisen itsekin. Joten eiköhän aloiteta!

January / Tammikuu
Me and my best friend travelled to Stockholm, Sweden, to welcome the year 2016. It was a great little break in the middle of the hectic school year and it was my very first time in that city even though Sweden is a familiar place otherwise. I didn't love Stockholm, but I enjoyed the trip anyway!

February + March / Helmikuu + Maaliskuu
No travels, no memories, nothing. These were some awful months.
Ei reissaamista, ei muistoja, ei mitään. Nämä olivat aika kamalia kuukausia.

April / Huhtikuu
Travelwise this month was pretty boring as well, but I got to see Apulanta live again!
May / Toukokuu
A week-long visit to England, my seventh time in that country! Just relaxing after the final exams and enjoying the company of my relatives. Discovering a new side of London in Greenwich and getting slightly tipsy in the middle of Sunday afternoon in a typical small town pub.

June was a month of new and exciting places. I moved to Luxembourg, spent a weekend in Brussels in Belgium, and did a day trip to Trier in Germany. Three countries and a new temporary hometown. I absolutely fell in love with Luxembourg and liked Brussels as well! And as expected, I liked Trier as I've liked pretty much everything about Germany. I also saw Disturbed live for the very first time!

I did one of the craziest things in my life so far, packed my bags and moved to the land Down Under. Had a stopover in Singapore and got convinced I have to visit that tiny country properly one day!

August / Elokuu
Just getting to know my new hometown and visiting some local attractions, everything felt still super cool around this time!
Uuteen kotikaupunkiin tutustumista ja paikallisia turistikohteita, kaikki tuntui tosi siistiltä näihin aikoihin!

September / Syyskuu
More discovering on our area, Sugarloaf rock and Crooked Brook forest being two main destinations.
Lisää lähialueen tutkimista Sugarloaf rockin ja Crooked Brook metsän ollessa kaksi pääkohteista.
October / Lokakuu
Little sister came to visit me, and we saw lots of cool things in three weeks. Trip to Fremantle and Rottnest, and I shouldn't forget Perth. A roadtrip all the way down to Denmark and Albany. Visiting Margaret River and wineries and stopping in Dunsborough on the way. Making the most out of my home state!

Pikkusisko tuli kylään ja nähtiin paljon hienoja juttuja kolmessa viikossa. Reissu Fremantleen ja Rottnestille, eikä Perthiäkään pitäisi unohtaa laskuista. Roadtrip etelään aina Denmarkiin ja Albanyyn asti. Visiitti Margaret Riverin viinitiloille ja pysähdys Dunsboroughssa matkan varrella. Otettiin tosiaankin kaikki irti mun kotiläänistä!
November / Marraskuu
A very boring month travel-wise again. Just a couple of trips to Perth and spending a lot of time with my friends and just enjoying of the simple things in life.

December / Joulukuu
Christmas preparations and spending a week in Dunsborough with my host family and my host mom's family. A lovely holiday in a great holiday house. Swimming in a pool, getting tanned, reading, and eating a lot. Christmas well spent.  A great ending for the year!

Hyvin vietetty joulu. Mahtava lopetus tälle vuodelle!
A total of 7 countries, out of which 4 were completely new ones. Exactly the same numbers as in 2015. Moving abroad twice, two new hometowns and two new families. A pretty decent year of travels 2016 I'd say!

Yhteensä 7 maata, joista 4 oli uusia tuttavuuksia. Tasan samat luvut kuin vuonna 2015. Kaksi muuttoa ulkomaille, kaksi uutta kotikaupunkia ja kaksi uutta perhettä. Melko kelvollinen reissuvuosi 2016 ellen sanoisi!

My year 2015

I haven't been posting for two weeks. I was planning to write a couple of posts to be published during Christmas time and during my trip to Stockholm but the plans changed. I had a high fever and bad flue for a week during Christmas and spend it mostly laying on the sofa and had no energy for anything really. But I'll try to get back on track as soon as possible now as I'm pretty much well again! And there are plenty of photos to be shared with you in a form of traveling posts!

Today we're still taking a look back to my year 2015. A year ago I did this post a bit differently - this year I'm just gonna mentioned a few highlights of 2015 instead of going it through totally. The pics are random shots from my phone, so most probably you haven't seen them earlier!

Tänään vilkaistaan vielä takaisin vuoteen 2015. Vuosi sitten toteutin saman postauksen vähän eri tavalla, sillä tällä kertaa palataan vain muutamaan huippukohtaan vuodessa 2015 käymättä sitä sen tarkemmin läpi. Kaikki kuvat ovat kännykkäkamaa, joten suurin osa lienee aiemmin julkaisemattomia otoksia kuluneelta vuodelta!
There in the world of music was a lot going on and quite a few nice news from different bands were released. For me the most important thing was the new Nightwish album Endless Forms Most Beautiful and seeing them in Ratina, Tampere, in July. Also new Apulanta record Kunnes siitä tuli totta came out and I bought tickets to their gig for me and my sis as a Christmas gift.

I spent my year with awesome people and made many new friends, experienced the IB life the fullest and had fun in international way. Finished my first IB year and started the last one. Everything with school was pretty fine even though this autumn has been a tough one.

I got my driver's license and had my eighteen birthday and spend it with a good friend listening to Apulanta in a club.

Sain ajokortin ja juhlin kahdeksattatoista synttäripäivää klubilla kuunnellen Apulantaa.
And what was most awesome thing, I fulfilled my dreams. I traveled more than ever spending six weeks of summer abroad. Countries I visited included England, Germany, Austria, Italy, Latvia, Cyprus and Sweden. I had my very first job abroad and learned some Germany, met new people and had fun in many ways. Saw new places, learned about new cultures. Got tanned, took thousands of pictures and was happy overall.

Long story short: 2015 was one of the best years ever with many unforgettable moments! Now it's good to move on and face 2016 and see what is going to happen. I'm happy right here right now, and going to make the most out of what life has to offer in the next year. It's going to be a year of changes. Happy new year to every single one of you! ♥

Edessä on muutosten vuosi. Hyvää uutta vuotta aivan jokaiselle! ♥

My year 2014

The past year has been full of everything. Many things have changed, many things have stayed the same. As you all have most probably heard this same stuff over and over again, I'll skip this cliche part and go straight to the last twelve months.
In January I still had red hair (and I'm missing it so much!), we had snow and cold. I studied somehow and spent time in horse stables - just ordinary everyday-life. The climax of the month was most probably the day, when we bought our flights to Oslo, from there to London and back to Helsinki with my best friend. And those three flights were under 150 euros, not bad at all!
In February I spent even more time with horses and found my hiding courage and self-confidence inside me and flew over 100cm obstacle with Vinha and after that whole season has been uphill and I have mostly positive memories. I dyed my hair back to darker, our relationship with my boyfriend became official and I really found Amaranthe among other great music.
In March I visited Oulu and Kuopio, and succeed in show jumping competitions. I think this month was really dull except horse-stuff, at least I don't really find pics, facebook statues or anything.
In April I had my 17th birthday and we celebrated it with couple of my friends. The first warm days and the first flowers of the year, the first training outside. Our dog got bitten by another dog, met a vet and was just sleeping and getting better for couple of days.
In May my little sis had her birthday and I baked a cake for her. I tried to get tanned (and spent quite many afternoons in our backyard) and the good mood with horses continued. Reading, sun, last push with school and then the long waited holiday.
June. Holiday. Babysitting my cousins two girls for a week, my sister's confirmation party. Visit to Rovaniemi with my family. Countdown to the journey of the year, finally packing and getting ready to leave Finland for over three weeks.
THE July. Absolutely the high point of my year. Norway 1.-13.7 and England 13.-23.7, back in Finland on 24th even if the train-trip was awful - I could actually share it.

We started our way back home in the afternoon of 23rd when we left the house of my cousins and her husbands. To the airport, flight to Finland and around the midnight in Finland. Couple of hours of sleep on the seats of Helsinki-Vantaa. To the train-station by bus, waiting train that should have left around five AM. It was late. Some problems with the railway in somewhere - waiting over an hour to get moving again. Missing our next train in Kuopio, so we were told to get off in Pieksämäki - there's absolutely nothing. Waiting the next train, late as well. Getting in and finally going home - the last part of the railway was damaged by thunderstorm, again more minutes spent than should have been spent.  Finally our stop - over four hours late, almost 24 hours on the road, hungry, tired and angry. But home.

Swimming, a lot of sun (and I burned myself for the first time in my life!), quality time with my best friend. Visiting Oslo and London, seeing relatives, eating well (and a lot). Over all experiencing the world and the life as its best.
In August I was forced to go back to school again. Starting the real IB, meeting my awesome class mates again. The "starting school"- party with them.  Seeing one of my dearest friends for the first time for ages.
In September we got the first snow, that melted away quickly. The first and the last snowman of the year and this winter (so far). Spending time with my sister, as our parents left to England for almost two weeks.
Baking, taking a lot of pictures as the colours of autumn were great. The prize for the hard work as we really succeed in our horse club's championships with Vinha. The autumn holiday.
In November we really got snow. Making some good food with my sis, getting roses from the one. A test-week and other ways taking easy with school because of many cancelled lessons.
December. Starting preparations for Christmas, the independence day and feeling like a real Finn more than before during the year. Taking part to the first Japanese lesson, pushing through the last weeks in school without any motivation. Baking gingerbread and visiting in Rovaniemi. Finally Christmas, relatives from England and many great days with them.

So that's my year 2014. I think now it's time to start the next chapter and the new year. Let's hope that it's gonna be as epic as the previous one was. I want to find a beautiful place to get lost, find myself again somewhere I didn't expected, study, make new friends and live.
