Time to take a look at Stockholm once again, kind of a throwback Thursday on Monday (or actually Tuesday as I forgot to press "publish" yesterday...)! As our hotel was located in Norrmalm it was the part of Stockholm that we discovered the most. In this post I'm gonna share with you a few spots that we checked out and liked a lot!

Aika Tukholma-postaukselle, jälleen kerran! Throwback thursdayn tapaan, mutta maanantaina (tai oikeastaan tiistaina, koska unohdin eilen painaa "julkaise" nappulaa...). Kuten jo aiemmin kerroin, oli hotellimme Norrmalmin alueella ja sitä tulikin sitten tutkittua eniten. Tässä postauksessa jaan teille muutaman paikan, joista ainakin me tykättiin!

Drottninggatan.

A pedestrian street full of shops and cafes. Of course there are a lot of shops, cafes and restaurants everywhere but we really liked this particular street and the area around it. Two days of shopping done easily!

Kävelykatu täynnä kauppoja ja kahviloita. Tietysti molempia, sekä ravintoloita, löytyy ympäri Tukholmaa, mutta me tykästyttiin tähän kyseiseen katuun ja alueeseen sen ympärillä. Kaksi päivää kuluu helposti shoppaillessa!

Churches.

I love churches. The architecture, the quietness, and the overall feeling are something that you don't see anywhere else. I visit churches wherever I am. In Norrmalm there are Adolf Fredriks church  and St. Johannes church. We didn't get in to the last one but it was impressive from outside. The first one was a small, quite ordinary church but still beautiful and peaceful. We also walked past St. Clara church and according to the pics in the internet it's really pretty from the inside as well.

Kirkot.

Rakastan kirkkoja. Arkkitehtuuri, hiljaisuus ja kokonaistunnelma ovat jotakin, mitä ei muualta löydä. Vierailen kirkoissa missä ikinä olenkaan. Norrmalmista löydettiin Adolf Frederikin kirkko ja St. Johanneksen kirkko. Toiseen ei päästy sisälle, mutta ulkoa se oli vaikuttava. Ensimmäinen sen sijaan oli pieni ja melko tavanomainen kirkko, mutta kaunis ja rauhaisa joka tapauksessa. Käveltiin myös St. Claran kirkon ohi ja netistä katsottujen kuvien perusteella sekin olisi tosi sievä sisältä!

Olof Palme's murder place

A bit of history here - Olof Palme was a Swedish prime minister around seventies and eighties. He was shot on 28th of February 1986 in the corner of Sveavägen and Tunnelgatan. The mystery is still unsolved and no-one knows who killed the minister. There's a memorial plaque to check out.

Pala historiaa - Olof Palme oli Ruotsin pääministeri 70- ja 80-lukujen aikana. Hänet murhattiin ampumalla 28. helmikuuta vuonna 1986 Sveavägenin ja Tunnelgatanin risteyksessä. Tähän päiväänkään mennessä kukaan ei ole onnistunut selvittämään, kuka ampui tappavat laukaukset. Tapahtumapaikalta löytyy muistolaatta, jonka voi käydä katsomassa.

Nämä olivat paikat, joissa vierailimme Tukholman reissullamme. Mitkä on sun lemppari paikkoja Tukholmassa?

In our trip to Stockholm we stayed in a hotel and as our stay was so pleasant and the hotel was nice overall I decided to share it with you. So the place was called Comfort Hotel Stockholm, it was cosy, youthful, and neat. I've been in quite a few hotels and this one was definitely a positive experience! The price was relatively cheap (~30€ per person per night), service was lovely and room was clean and even though it wasn't huge we had totally enough space for the two of us. The location was pretty good as well - really close to the main railway station and it was easy to explore Norrmalm, Kungsholmen and Gamla Stan by foot. 

Breakfast, WiFi, and free tea and coffee round the clock were included and I would recommend this place for anyone visiting Stockholm (unless you want more luxurious place). The breakfast wasn't outstandingly awesome but it was a good average hotel breakfast - and that's pretty much the worst thing I can say about this place. So we were lucky in choosing our hotel!

Tukholman matkalla yövyttiin hotellissa, ja koska se oli miellyttävä kokemus kaikkineen ja hotellikin oli kokonaisuudessaan oikein kiva, päätin jakaa sen teillekin. Paikan nimi oli Comfort Hotel Stockholm ja se oli viihtyisä, nuorekas ja siisti. Olen elämäni aikana yöpynyt useassa hotellissa ja tämä oli ehdottomasti positiivinen kokemus! Hinta oli verrattain halpa (~30€ yöltä henkilöä kohden), palvelu oli ystävällistä ja huone siisti ja riittävän iso meille, vaikkei se mikään valtava ollutkaan. Sijaintikin oli hyvä, sillä päärautatieasema oli ihan nurkan takana ja hotellilta käsin oli helppo tutkia Norrmalm, Kungsholmen ja Gamla Stan jalkaisin. 

Aamupala, wifi ja kellon ympäri tarjolla ollut ilmainen kahvi ja tee kuuluivat hintaan, ja suosittelisinkin kyseistä paikkaa kenellä tahansa Tukholmassa vierailevalle (ellet sitten halua yöpyä luksushotellissa). Aamupala ei ollut mitenkään erityinen, mutta se oli hyvä perus hotelliaamiainen. Ja keskiverron aamiaisen ollessa huonoin sanottavani kyseisestä paikasta, niin en liene voi todeta muuta, kuin että oltiin onnekkaita hotellin valinnan suhteen!

During our trip to Stockholm, we decided to spend one afternoon by wandering around the old part of the city, Gamla Stan. It's actually a separate island and has many many small alleys, The Royal Palace and lots of lovely cafes, restaurants and shops. The atmosphere was really nice and the buildings were absolutely beautiful. There is something that I really like in the old cities - old Tallinn is beautiful, as well as old Riga. I love old, small English villages with ancient houses and liked the old city of Nürnberg. And I have to say, that Gamla Stan was most probably my favourite part of Stockholm!

Tukholman matkalla päätettiin varata yksi iltapäivä vanhaan kaupunkiin, Gamla Staniin, tututustumiseen. Gamla Stan on itseasiassa erillinen saari, josta löytyy paljon pieniä kujia, Kuninkaan linna ja monia viehkoja kahviloita, ravintoloita ja putiikkeja. Tunnelma oli mukava ja rakennukset tosi kauniita. Vanhoissa kaupungeissa, ja niiden osissa, on vain jotakin, mikä muhun iskee ja lujaa. Vanha Tallinna on kaunis, samoin kuin vanha Riika. Rakastan pienien Englantilaiskylien charmia ikivanhoine taloineen ja pidin Nürnbergin vanhasta kaupungista. Ja täytyy sanoa, että Gamla Stan oli lienee lempiosani koko Tukholmasta!

On Saturday, the day we left Sweden, we walked to the terminal and spend some time in Gamla Stan by wandering around (in the freezing weather) in order to find a place to have a cup of hot chocolate. As it was weekend most of the places were full, but we ended up into a tiny cafe that reminded us of a grandma's place. The owner was really friendly, we had our hot chocolates and sat there to warm up again until the place was closed. Pity, that I have no idea what the cafe was called and where it located - I really would recommend it!

Lauantaina, kun lähdettiin kotia kohti, käveltiin terminaalille ja kulutettiin jokunen tovi Gamla Stanissa etsien paikkaa, josta saataisiin kuumat kaakaot sään ollessa jäätävä. Viikonlopun läsnäolon tosiaan huomasi ja lähes kaikki paikat oli jo täytetty, mutta onnistuttiin kuitenkin löytämään mummolaa muistuttava pikku kahvila. Omistaja oli ystävällinen, saatiin kupilliset kuumaa kaakaota ja istuttiin lämmittelemässä sulkemisaikaan saakka. Harmi sinällään, että minulla ei ole hajuakaan, mikä kahvilan nimi oli tai missä se sijaitsi - olisin muuten ehdottomasti suositellut!

So, to conclude. Gamla Stan is a place to visit if you ever go to Stockholm. I would even say, that if you just have money, book yourself a room in Gamla Stan. I just bet that they are more expensive than the hotels in other parts of the city but it was such a beautiful place!

Eli tiivistettynä - Gamla Stan on paikka, jossa täytyy ehdottomasti käydä, jos Tukholmaan eksyy. Sanoisin jopa, että jos ylimääräistä rahaa löytyy, niin varaa hotelli Gamla Stanin alueelta. Voisin nimittäin lyödä vetoa, että hotellit siellä ovat kalliimpia, kuin muualla kaupungissa, mutta vanhassa kaupungissa nyt vain on sitä tiettyä vetovoimaa!
