Hot Water Beach in the southeast of North Island of New Zealand is literally a beach with water that can reach a temperature of over 60 Celsius. It was the first of our stops on our small roadtrip from Auckland and it was a pretty cool place.

Hot Water Beach koillisosassa Uusi-Seelannin pohjoissaarta on kirjaimellisesti ranta, jolta löytyy yli 60 asteista vettä. Paikka oli ensimmäinen stoppimme pienellä roadtripillä, joka tehtiin Aucklandista käsin ja olihan se nyt aika siisti paikka.

This place was one of the geothermal sites in New Zealand and you can find the hot water by digging yourself a pool in the sand - one of the most absurd beaches I've been to. Lots of people sitting in their little pools that are literally so hot, that you can't even dip yourself into the hottest ones. The best spot for your pool is close enough to the ocean to create a perfect mixture of the cool ocean water and the hot water coming from the underground hot streams. 

Kyseessä on siis geoterminen alue, josta on mahdollista löytää kuumaa vettä kaivamalla kuopan hiekkaan - yksi kummallisimmista rannoista, jolla olen ollut. Paljon ihmisiä istumassa kaivetuissa altaissaan, joissa vesi on niin kuumaa, ettei kuumimpiin edes pysty menemään. Paras paikka kuopan kaivamiselle onkin siis lähempänä merta, jossa merivesi sekoittuu maan alta virtaavaan kuumaan veteen luoden täydellisen lämpöisen sekoituksen.

The whole experience was pretty unique and somehow I ended up comparing it with Finnish sauna. Sitting in the hot water made you sweat and it was absolutely refreshing to dip in the cool ocean in between of relaxing in the pool with your friends.

Kokemus oli melko uniikki ja jotenki päädyin vertaamaan sitä meidän saunaan. Kuumassa altaassa istuminen sai jokaisen varmasti hikoilemaan ja viileeään mereen pulahtaminen oli varsin virkistävää altaassa rentoutumisen välissä.
