Last time I shared a few photos from the town of Albany, this time we take a look at the beautiful coastline and the surroundings overall of this beautiful part of Western Australia.

Viimeksi jaoin kuvia Albanysta itsestään, nyt katsellaan vähän, että mitä pikkukaupungin lähiympäristöstä löytyykään. Rantaviiva ja muutenkin alue on mielestäni tosi upea osa Länsi-Australiaa.

We spent one day driving around and as said, the easiest way to find the best spots is to go and ask a map and tips from the local visitor centre. A map with a couple of places highlighted is free (or if you want you can always leave your small donation) and it really is easier than trying to google everything. I haven't really been a fan of stopping in tourist infos or so before but in Australia I've really learned the value of them. If nothing else it's at least a good starting point if you have no idea where to go. From there you can keep exploring on your own and find the things that are not mentioned in the tourist guides.

Me vietettiin yksi päivä ajelemalla ympäriinsä ja kuten sanottua, helpoin tapa löytää parhaat paikat on kysyä karttaa ja vinkkejä paikallisesta turisti-infosta. Kartta, josta sulle ympyröidään parit visiitin arvoiset paikat on ilmainen (jollet halua jättää pientä vapaaehtoista lahjoitusta) ja näin ne on huomattavasti helpompi löytää, kuin googlaamalla. En ole koskaan ollut turisti-infojen suuri fani, mutta täällä Ausseissa olen alkanut ymmärtää niiden arvon. Jos ei muuten, niin ainakin ne on hyvä lähtökohta, jos ei ole mitään hajua siitä, minne haluaa mennä. Vinkkejen pohjalta voi sitten jatkaa tutkimista omillaan ja löytää nekin paikat, joita matkaoppaissa ei mainita.

Two of the things that I liked the most were called The Gap and Natural bridge. The first one being literally a huge gap in the rock - it was some 25 metres drop from the viewing platform to the cold ocean. The pictures don't really show how spectacular the place was but I guess you get a better idea if you check out the link. For someone like me who's terrified of heights, it required a huge effort to go and stand on the platform with basically nothing but the huge fall underneath my feet, but it was worth it! 

Kaksi lempparijuttuani olivat The Gap ja Natural bridge. Ensimmäinen mainituista oli kirjaimellisesti suuri halkeama kalliossa. Paikkaa pääsi ihailemaan näköalatasanteelta, josta pudotus hyiseen veteen oli sellaiset 25 metriä. Kuvat eivät todellakaan anna arvoa tälle huikaisevalle paikalle, mutta paremman idean saat tsekkaamalla linkin. Jollekulle, kuten minulle, jolla on korkeanpaikankammo, oli kyseessä taas kerran paikka, jonne meneminen vaati hurjaa tahdonvoimaa, mutta olihan se nyt sen arvoista seisoa tasanteella ja katsoa pudotusta jalkojensa alla.

The other miracle of nature was right next to the Gap and it was this Natural bridge formed of stones. It isn't as breathtaking as the Gap, but it was cool. It doesn't stop amazing me how interesting things there are in the nature and how they have been formed within hundreds or thousand of years.

Toinen luonnoihme oli aivan the Gapin vieressä - Natural bridge oli siis nimensä mukaan kivistä muodostunut siltamainen rakennelma. Ei ehkä niin henkeäsalpaava kuin the Gap, mutta silti aika hieno. Luonto ei koskaan lakkaa ihmetyttämästä minua, eikä se, kuinka erikoisia juttuja satojen tai tuhansien vuosien kuluessa voikaan syntyä.

If these places interest you, you have to pay a small fee for entering the area, but as it's per vehicle, not per person, the cost wasn't bad at all. 

Jos haluat vierailla näissä paikoissa, on alueelle parkkeeraamiseen pieni maksu, mutta koska se peritään kulkuneuvoa, ei henkilöä, kohden niin kulutkin jäivät varsin kohtuullisiksi.

Albany is just worth exploring around by car - as you can hopefully see from the photos! After the day of driving we camped in one of the caravan parks and headed back home on the next morning. I'll still write one more post concluding the whole thing, but I can say already this trip in October it was one of the best roadtrips I've ever been on!

Albany vaan on autolla tutkimisen arvoinen, kuten kuvista toivon mukaan näkee! Päivän ajelun jälkeen telttailtiin karavaanaripuistossa ja suunnattiin kotiin seuraavana aamuna. Aion vielä kirjoitella yhden postauksen, johon kokoan koko reissun, mutta voin jo nyt sanoa, että tämä lokakuinen reissu oli yksi parhaista roadtripeistä, joilla olen koskaan ollut!
