Feelings from the airport in Singapore

I'm sitting in Singapore Changi airport writing this. To be precise, I'm in a hotelroom which is three times fancier but half of the price that the room in Helsinki-Vantaa I've been in once. This is an airport of which I have to post about later on, it's something to see! I didn't have energy to go up to the city and to be honest - there's totally enough to do and see in this airport for a few hours.

I left home on Wednesday afternoon, flew to Helsinki and spent 9 hours there with my friends. Then a 12 hour flight to Singapore and now 11 hours of waiting. Then 5 hours to Perth and 2 hours drive to the final destination. I'll be there on Friday. It's a long long way.

My feelings are a bit mixed. Somehow I managed not to cry when I left home and Finland (might be because I cried like 45mins after I drove my best friend to the night bus and she left to Germany on Tuesday) and now I'm here. It's somehow still this huge thing that I don't really realize, but I get these peaks of excitement every now and then. It's gonna be great.

Fiilikset on vähän sekavat.
I'm worried that they won't take me in to the country (like I have these irrational fears of not understanding English and saying something wrong and ending up in jail. Makes no sense right?) or that I've forgot something really important. But I know I have all the most important items I need and I know there's no reason why they wouldn't let me in Australia.

My dreams are becoming true. It's all so strange and new and happening at once, I'm confused. I'm on an adventure and it's cool. I just wanted to tell all of you that you must be a bit crazy to move abroad. It's not a simple thing to do (the paperwork and everything around it, not even talking about the emotional side of this), but I know it will be worth it. It already is.

Unelmat on täyttymässä.

A word about love.

In English:
I'm sitting in my bed and I can't get to sleep. I just cried, a lot, again. I feel numb and so much all the same time. I didn't mean to post anything like this but rather tell you about feelings of moving to Australia next week(!). But now I just feel like I need to get this all out somehow.

I read news today just as I always do. A shooting in Munich, the article was released 23 minutes ago and the situation was on, no-one really knew much at that time. I linked the article to my friend and told him how sad it is that I no longer feel sad and shaken when I read a headline like that, but I think more like "again, really?". Then I kind of forgot the thing, said to my mum later in the day how horrible it is that things like this happen all the time and even in places I've been myself.

And now it hit me a while ago. I have a friend who's visiting Germany at the moment. She is visiting her relatives - they live in Bavaria, they go to Munich in regular basis. I even know people who live in Munich. I tend to care about most of the people I know, and those people I know in Germany are definitely the ones I care about. It really truly hit me and made me cry. There are people who could have really been in the area, people who are living in this particular city or close to it. People who are visiting there. People who actually considered going shopping in Munich today.

All of them are safe and fine and doing well, but I feel horrible. I feel horrible about myself and about the world. It's terrible how much anger and hate and evilness there is. How sick people can be. And how can I become so numb for all of this that I don't even realize to think about people I know and who could have been in danger?

The first act of terrorism I remember shocking me a lot lately is the attack in Paris in November 2015. Of course there have been awful, shocking things earlier as well (like Breivik in Norway, just to mention one which actually happened exactly 5 years ago), but somehow this Paris one is the one standing out for me. It's the point where the whole world started to fall apart. These attacks have become so ordinary thing that I don't react to them anymore the way I used to. It just happened again. That's it. Paris, Istanbul, Orlando, Nice, Munich... and not to even mention how many people are dying in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan...

But this time was different, it somehow came so close and I started to think. I know a lot of people from many different places, I care about them. I would say some I even love with all my heart. It's awesome and enriching but it also increases the risk of losing someone because of all this craziness. I have so many to worry about and today I didn't even realize to do so. I've said so many goodbyes this week and I've cried so many times because I have no idea when I'm going to see these people again. I have cried because there was a real possibility of losing someone important in today's happenings.

I'm moving far far away from home next week. It's confusing. Saying goodbyes is awful but it would be even more horrible to have no-one to cry for. It's awful to know horrible things could have happened to people I love. And I've really realized during these weeks in Finland how important it is to tell people you love them. Hug them when you can. Say sorry, and forgive. Say thank you. Be there. Make most out of every moment because you never know how long it lasts. You never know who's next or what's going to happen. It doesn't matter if it's about someone moving to the other side of the globe, or someone dying accidentally, or whatever. What matters is love.

Our world is a mad world. People have so much hate in them. There's so much to be afraid of but I see it as a reason to live. The more there's to lose and the more there's to be scared of, the more you have to live for. You have to live your life to the fullest because you might not have a chance to do it later. If you want something, go and get it. If you love someone, go and tell them. If you wish something, make it come true. Life is too short to be afraid, too short to please others, too short to do as expected, too short to regret, and too short to carry the weight of hate and sorrow on your shoulders.

It's okay to cry, it's okay to be sad, it's okay to be afraid. But the negativity shouldn't play too big part. Follow your dreams, do things that make you happy, and respect others. I know as long as there are humans there will be a lot of bad going on but I also believe we can make a change a bit by bit. My life is awesome right now and I try to remember it every day. Don't dream your life, live your dreams.

Love is something precious to have. So please, value it. Do a good thing today, tell someone you love them and love yourself, too. Love doesn't wear out by sharing it, it multiplies. Make it multiple and bloom and go and live your life.
Suomeksi:

He asuvat siellä.

Ensimmäinen terrori-isku, jonka muistan minua viime aikoina järkyttäneen, on Marraskuun 2015 isku Pariisissa.

Sano kiitos.

Meidän maailma on hullu paikka.

Exploring Lux: Grund

Last time I introduced you Kirchberg, this time we move from the business centre to the centre of nightlife. Grund (Luxembourgish: Gronn) locates down in the valley, kind of between Kirchberg and the centre. Grund is absolutely beautiful area seen above, as the buildings are what I imagine as "very Luxembourgish" and the Alzette river runs through this part of the city.

As said, pretty much all of the nightlife of Lux is located in Grund. There are pubs and bars and many cafes up in the centre as well, but many of the clubs are located all in the same block in Grund. So you can basically go there and visit all of them if you wish, finding the place you like the best. I can't say much about the nightlife in Lux as I went out just a couple of times and we chose comfy pubs over clubs. But what I saw when I walked through the "partyarea" the atmosphere seemed to be relaxed and as safe as it is pretty much everywhere in this city. The easiest way to find your way to this block is to put "Microsoft Luxembourg" to the google maps and follow the instructions!

Kuten sanottua, lähes kaikki Luxin yöelämä on Grundissa.
Besides nightlife Grund has lovely, old buildings. And if you like churches, there's one to visit: St. John Church. Likely to all the other quarters of the city, Grund is easily reachable by bus, e.g. a bus stop called Clause, Tour Jacob is a good place to jump off. Grund is not too far away from the centre by foot and there's also an elevator between the different levels of the city, so you can take a lift down to Grund and back up!

Do you prefer clubs or pubs or bars, or do you rather skip them all, when travelling?
Suositko sä klubeja, pubeja vai baareja, vai skippaatko ne kaikki matkustaessasi?
