Thoughts from the road

2/21/2017

I love Tasmania. Again, I started writing this while sitting on a bus. We arrived in Devonport early in the morning - the overnight ferry from Melbourne to Tasmania was a pleasant surprise. The seats were comfy enough for an almost decent sleep. Now we're on the way to our first destination, Ulverstone. Let's see what happens and what are we going to do in Tasmania, the plans are a bit unclear except for the accommodation (and so on the spots we have to do our exploring from).

Rakastan Tasmaniaa. Aloin taas kirjoittamaan postausta istuessani bussissa. Me saavuttiin Devonportiin aikaisin aamulla - vietettiin yö lautalla Melbournesta Tasmaniaan.
But back to the topic. I love Tasmania. Just by spending here a day, feeling the perfect +18 degree air, and sitting in a bus for half an hour watching these views I can say I love it. It's hilly, the streets are narrow. So narrow, that the bus had to stop to wait another bus to come as we couldn't both fit on the road at the same time. This area reminds me in some weird way of both English and Luxembourgish countrysides. I love them both. Maybe this feels a bit like home.

Mutta takaisin aiheeseen. Rakastan Tasmaniaa.
And I have to admit I've faced my very first "I just wanna go home" moment here in Australia since I came here. Of course Christmas time felt a bit weird and I kind of missed home, but I had my Australian family around me. Now I'm kind of "homeless" and it just hit in that one morning in Melbourne. And I don't even know if I was missing Finland or Western Australia. But let's see what I'll feel like after a few weeks of travelling - I've been travelling a lot but never been backpacking for almost two months in a row. It's something different.

I didn't manage to publish this post earlier, we've spent four days here now and I still love it. I've enjoyed it a lot, I had a Skype chat with my parents and my sister. I've had so many good laughs with Viktoria. And all in all, I kind of enjoy being on the road at the moment - I have to admit though that I'm a bit worried of how I'll survive in New Zealand. I still don't have any plans except for the dates when I arrive and leave. But let's see, it's just another adventure and I'll pull it all together somehow.

And after these four days I feel more and more like home. Apart from the trees this could be in Europe and I like it. Maybe going back in a few months will be exciting, not just sad because of saying goodbye to Australia.
